Extension of the term of protection for performers adopted by the European Union

On September 12, 2011, Europe adopted a directive extending to seventy years the term of protection of rights of performers in the sector sound. This lengthening of the duration of performers' rights expected by Adami for several years, is a significant step forward. However, this is only the first step, because this text applies only to beneficiaries of the sound sector and not those of the audiovisual sector.

Adami requests that this extension is promptly extended to the performers of film and TV broadcasting, so that artists of sound and audiovisual sectors can benefit from the same period of their rights. In this sense, the Commission announced the launch of an impact study to measure the issues of extending the measure to the audiovisual sector is a positive signal that the artists will follow closely.
