European performers' conference in Cabourg

10th year
December, 10 and 11, 2009

Every autumn since November 2000 the Rencontres Européennes des Artistes (European performers' conference) brings together people working in the performing arts to examine the impact of the digital revolution on the practices of performers and the upheavals that it causes in the economy of culture.

Opening of the Conference: Thursday, November, 10 - 2:30 pm

With Jean-Paul Henriet, Mayor of Cabourg and Philippe Ogouz, President of the board of Adami. Tribute to Jack Ralite.

First workshop : Thursday, December, 10 - 2:45 - 5:30 pm

The performing artist of tomorrow: visions and reality

Irma and Adami have partnered to publish “Artistes 2020 – prospective variations” in which fifteen personalities discuss what performing artists might be in 2020.
Beyond this book, this workshop will explore different avenues relating to the future of performing artists: their rights on the Internet, their incomes and the diversity of their artistic practices.

Second workshop: Friday, December, 11 - 9:30 - 12:00 am

Everyone online! What is the added value? How are we to share? The economy and the challenges of digital distribution

The cultural sector has long lived under the illusion that consumers were going to transfer easily from the traditional physical distribution to virtual shops. But legal and illegal distributions of works have increased. During this workshop, the speakers will explore the reality and loss of earnings for artists in this new context.

Third workshop: Friday, December, 11 - 2:30 – 5:30 pm

Digital technology: a revolution in the chain of royalties?

The digital distribution of works is largely replacing physical sales. As a consequence, the functioning of promoting networks, works distributions and performer’s incomes is drastically changing. Thanks to collective management, the delivery of authorization to users could be simplified by ensuring fair compensation to those entitled. What form should this collective management take? What would be the balance between collective, individual, mandatory and contractual management?
